Please contact Lori Meyers at 217-725-7171 (dmlm96@ymail.com) to help with concessions. She will need 12 volunteers for each meet.

Click the SCHEDULE tab to see our meet schedule. Practice Schedule and Bus Times are under the TEAM FILE section. Check out the TEAM LINK section for other valuable information.

Teams:

7th Grade Girls, 7th Grade Boys, 8th Grade Girls, 8th Grade Boys

Tryout:

We will record a time or distance in each event. The students that record one of the top two times or distances will be on the away team. The away team is made up of our top two students in each event. There are no cuts in track. All students will compete at home meets. As the season progresses the students will stay in competition for away spots. There will be an opportunity for a student to to earn a spot on the away roster throughout the season. Students must have a current physical on file with the nurse in order to participate.

Athletes need to be ready for a run off at all practices. Kids will get faster as the year goes along and we will compete for spots up to the Sectional Track Meet.

You may sign your child out after they are done competing at away meets. There is no sign out at home meets.

GMS Track on Twitter and Facebook:

Join the GMS Track Twitter by searching and following GMS Track @Woot333. Search GMS Track to follow on Facebook. I will post meet and practice cancelations and any new information on these sites.

Relays:

4X100, 4X200, 4X400

After tryouts we put together our relay teams. There are four runners and an alternate spot on each relay. The alternate will run when a runner on the relay is unable to compete. Relays can change throughout the season. Students will get faster as the season progresses and will have the opportunity to challenge for a relay spot.

6th Grade Information:

Sixth grade students will be supervised in the GIS cafeteria until 3:30. They will then be released to the track.

Practice:

The students should have clothes to change into after school that is appropriate for a workout. The weather is unpredictable so students should have enough clothes to layer up. It is important that they have their name on all of their clothes. The coaching staff is not responsible for lost items. The track is closed to everyone except coaches and athletes during practice time.

Communication:

1- Student to coach

2- Parent/Student to coach

3- Parent/Student to coach and athletic director

Shoes:

It is not important to go get spikes right away. It is a good idea to have a quality pair of running shoes. I suggest The Running Center for their customer service and the 20% discount for being on the track team. If you are purchasing spikes they need to be 1/4" pyramid spikes. Needle nose spikes or spikes larger than 1/4" are illegal.

Medication:

It is the responsibility of the student to let the coaches know of any medication that the student needs.

Rides:

All rides should be at the track by 5:15.

Absence:

If you are at school you are required to be at practice. If you go home with an illness tell the nurse that you are in track and she will e-mail me.

Alton Invite, Warrior Invite, Franklin Invite, Sectionals:

These track meets are composed of our top two athletes in each event. It is very important to check the schedule and make sure you can attend these  meets.  The Sectional meet is the only way to qualify for State. An athlete must make qualifying time/distance or finish first at the Sectional meet in order to qualify for the State meet.

East Peoria Meet:

This is a varsity meet. The top two athletes regardless of grade will compete.

Home Meet Help:

We will need parent volunteers to help time at our home meets. No experience needed. All coaches will be busy doing their part in working the meet. We can not start a meet until we have all volunteers in place. Thank you in advance for helping!

Inclement Weather:

If we are at practice and the weather gets bad we will be in either the GMS or GIS gym. Please go to one of those locations to pick up your child.
